Terence Tao Says AI May Usher in an Era of Proof Surplus in Math

In his ICM 2026 speech, Terence Tao stated that AI will push mathematics from an era of proof scarcity into one of proof surplus. While AI makes generating proofs much easier, it will fundamentally change mathematical values and practices without necessarily accelerating overall research progress.
