Brief Claude Code Bug Prompts Max Users for Credits

Around July 20, Claude Code experienced a brief system-level glitch. The bug caused some subscription users to encounter abnormal billing prompts during use, sparking concerns about potential changes to subscription rules, but officials have confirmed that fixes are gradually taking effect.

User-Side Abnormalities

Several users reported encountering abnormal prompts after July 19. For instance, @-Outrageous-Vanilla- and @Minas93 noted that Claude Max plan users were asked by the system to provide usage credits while running, and the interface even guided users to claude.ai to purchase credits. @trq212 also mentioned that users found Fable 5 seemingly running only on a credit basis, ignoring the user's Max 5x plan status.

Official Response and Fixes

Regarding this "scary" glitch, @trq212 and @jarrodwatts revealed the official response: it was merely a bug lasting a few minutes. Officials advised users who encountered this issue to simply restart Claude Code, and the relevant fixes have already begun to roll out. Additionally, @Distinct-Bake-930 shared a user's self-help experience, pointing out that when a Max20 plan is prompted for credits, simply logging out and back in resolves the issue. This confirms that the problem was purely a system display anomaly and not an alteration of subscription rules by Anthropic.
