Bay Area Robot Ecosystem Map Highlights Silicon Valley as Robotics Capital

On July 13, Lukas Ziegler released a detailed map of "Bay Area Robotics Companies," marking over 40 robotics and embodied AI firms in a small Silicon Valley area, declaring it the "robotics capital." The map took three times longer to create than his previous ones. Based on personal visits, he noted the density is so high that one couldn't even visit 10% of them in a month. The map categorizes companies by city and region: Mountain View, Palo Alto, and Santa Clara feature Physical AI, home robots, and collaborative robots, with NVIDIA Robotics highlighted as a core player in computing and software rather than a complete machine manufacturer; San Francisco hosts Physical Intelligence, The Bot Company, Built Robotics, and Chef Robotics; the East Bay and Peninsula cover Ambi Robotics, Dexterity, Bear Robotics, Serve Robotics, Kiwibot, and Mytra. Why the Bay Area

Ziegler attributes the core advantages to three factors: Stanford and UC Berkeley continuously outputting AI/robotics researchers and entrepreneurs; the world's deepest venture capital network combined with serial entrepreneurs willing to bet long-term on robotics; and foundational support from NVIDIA Robotics in chips/compute and Tesla in autonomous driving. He also noted that the high density of talent makes it easier for robotics startups to hire experienced professionals.
